The annual White Castle USA Luge Slider Search has begun! Here’s an opportunity for your child to learn the skills necessary to be a luge athlete from U.S. Olympic and National Team coaches and athletes for free. The top participants at this event will have a chance to be selected for the luge development team and then train to become a member of the U.S. National and Olympic team. The White Castle USA Luge Slider Search is USA Luge’s most important off-season recruitment initiative. The series of free luging clinics will kick off in Columbus, OH, and make its way across the country this summer to discover promising young luge athletes. During the clinics, youth ages nine to 13 will learn from team USA Luge athletes and coaches about the basics of riding a luge sled at controlled speeds, including positioning, steering and stopping. Along with developing these skills, participants will take several runs down a paved luge course on wheel-equipped luge sleds and test skills through a battery of fitness tests. Currently, most of the U.S. Junior National Team was recruited through this event, so there is no wonder that USA Luge coaching staff are looking at this event for the next generation of National and Olympic team members. Over the years, the White Castle USA Luge Slider Search has traveled over 220,000 miles and introduced the sport of luge to more than 20,000 eager young athletes. This is a great event for your kids to participate in and find their unknown love for the sport of luge.
